Gary Pearson (he/him) Piano Gary Pearson studied piano with Harold H. Harris and Marilyn Carboni prior to receiving his bachelor's degree at Samford University. His teacher was Dr. Betty Sue Shepherd. While earning a master's degree in piano performance and studying with Dr. Maurice Hinson at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Mr. Pearson joined the Louisville Academy of Music faculty. His tenure at the school spans 50 years. His piano students are winners in the Overstreet, MacDowell, and Louisville Youth Orchestra Concerto competitions as well as Indiana State School Music Association piano contests; and performers of solo, ensemble, and group recitals, and recipients of music scholarships to Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and Manhattan School of Music in New York. He regularly has students in WUOL's Young Artist Competition and the Royal Conservatory Performance Assessment Program. To acknowledge his distinguished career, a banquet was held at Lampton Baptist Church where he was on the music staff for 27 years. Louisville's mayor proclaimed "Gary Pearson Day", and Mr. Pearson was named a "Kentucky Colonel"> He maintains an active studio of some 55 students per week which encompasses students of all ages. Jeffrey Jamner (he/him) Piano Jeff received his Bachelor of Music degree from Mannes College of Music, his Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from the University of Louisville, and his Doctor of Music degree in Piano Performance at the Manhattan School of Music. He has studied with some of the most prominent music teachers in the country including Lee Luvisi, Paul Schenly, Jerome Lowenthal, Artur Balsam, and Jeannette Haien. Jeff has also studied and performed in numerous music festivals including The Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, Kneisel Hall in Blue Hill, Maine, Round Top Festival in Texas, and as faculty member of the East West International Music Festival in Altenburg, Germany. Jeff has taught at the University of Louisville School of Music and its preparatory department before pursuing his Doctoral studies in New York. He has also enjoyed a dual career as a concert pianist and as and arts education administrator. For over twenty years he has directed arts education and outreach programs at Kentucky Performing Arts. He has performed with The Louisville Orchestra on several occasions, as well as with the West Virginia Symphony, Yonkers Philharmonic, and Manhattan Chamber Sinfonia. His chamber music career is quite extensive, with performances at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City, the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., and several guest appearances with The Kentucky Center Chamber Players. He was founder and Artistic Director of Concorde: The Chamber Music Society of Westport in Connecticut. He has several recordings on Capstone and Centaur labels. He has performed chamber music with such notable artists as Jinjoo Cho, Mihai Marica, Tai Murray, Todd Palmer, Mayuki Fukuhara, Sara Louise Callaway, Megumi Ohkubo, and his wife, flutist Margaret Jamner. Besides teaching privately, she has taught piano at Jefferson Community College and theory in the Preparatory Department of the University of Louisville. Lina also has considerable experience as an accompanist at the Universities of Louisville and Kentucky and as a staff accompanist at the Interlochen National Music Camp. Her students have participated in the MTNA competitions, winning first places in both piano and theory; in the National Guild Auditions, earning the highest scores awarded; in the ISSMA's Solo and Ensemble, where, for over 25 years, the majority of students received perfect scores; in the Indiana Young Artists Competition, the Louisville Macdowell Competition and various other local competitions and talent shows. Derek is extremely grateful for all the influential educators and musicians he has crossed paths with over the years and looks forward to the many new opportunities that lie ahead. Derek is currently the music teacher at St. Matthews Elementary school and has taught in the Jefferson County Public School system for over two decades. He was awarded the Outstanding Elementary Music Educator Award in 2016 and the Kentucky PTA Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2009. Outside of his school responsibilities he is quite active performing with several musicians and groups in Louisville. Derek currently plays with Tony and the Tan Lines (Louisville’s premier cover band), the West Market Street Stompers, Big Black Cadillac, a local Billy Joel tribute band, and the Don Krekel Orchestra. Other local groups he has performed with include the Louisville Orchestra, Derby Dinner Playhouse, the Dave Mehl Big Band, Jake and Elwood and the Boys (Blues Brothers tribute band), Old School, V-Groove, Caribou, From Paris, Dark Side of the Wall (Pink Floyd tribute band), and many others. He has also shared the stage with various national acts including The Temptations, Ambrosia, Bob Newhart, and various celebrities at the annual Barnstable Brown derby party. Derek is also a former saxophone instructor at Campbellsville University and the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshop. A faculty member at the academy since 1994, Derek has consistently guided his students to become confident, self-sufficient musicians. Classical, jazz, rock, and more are all used to help students establish a wide range of music appreciation. Currently she is principal cellist with the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Orchestra. She pulls from various methods to teach note reading, sound production, and ear training from the very beginning of a child's development as a musician. She loves working with all ages and all levels of players and strives to nurture the whole person through the study of the instrument. Sara’s students have been accepted in prestigious music programs such as Eastman School of Music, IU Jacobs School of Music, and the Heifetz International Music Institute. They have won local concerto and young artists competitions such as the LYO, YPAS, WUOL, and Ruth French, as well as earned section leader positions in their school and regional orchestras such as LYO, YPAS, All-County, and All-State, etc. Above all Sara is most proud of their progress, hard work, and improvement over time. Sara received her Master's in Violin Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, studying with Fabian Lopez and Marjorie Bagley and simultaneously completing a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Ethnomusicology. She holds a Bachelor of Music Performance from UNC-Chapel Hill where she studied under violinist Richard Luby. Prior to college she studied with Ruth French who later became her mentor in Violin Pedagogy. Sara succeeded Ruth as President of the Louisville Academy of Music in 2018. Sara has performed with groups such as Atlanta Pops, the Louisville Orchestra, Savannah Philharmonic, NouLou Chamber Players, Paducah Symphony Orchestra, and the Hollywood Concert Orchestra. She has collaborated and recorded with many musicians such as Stephen Vitiello, Will Oldham, Dane Waters, Jacob Duncan, and Ben Sollee. Sara attended music programs at The Berlin University of the Arts, The International Music Academy at Pilsen, The International Violin Symposium at Chapel Hill, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. She was awarded a Pedagogy Fellowship at the Heifetz Institute, a Teaching Assistantship as a member of the Graduate String Quartet at UNC-G, and was a Summer Intern at Appalshop. She has also released a solo violin album on the local record label Auralgami Sounds. A Louisville native, Timothy began his education at the J. Graham Brown School. His first instrument was the violin, which he studied with Louisville Academy of Music's former director Ruth French. He was eventually bitten by the guitar bug and he would go on to receive his B.M. in guitar performance and M.M. in string pedagogy from the University of Louisville. He has enjoyed a teaching and performing career with highlights such as director of guitar ensembles at the Youth Performing Arts School, a featured performer at the 2013 GFA, third place in the Macauley chamber music competition, leading guitar classes at the Suzuki Institute of Louisville, Guitar Summer Camp with the Kentucky Arts Academy, and many varied and uniquely demanding teaching positions at private studios around the Louisville Metro Area. He plays a wide range of musical styles, and specializes in teaching beginner’s guitar, classical guitar, jazz, and music theory. Recently he has directed his efforts to fulfilling his role as education and outreach director of the Louisville Guitar Society by directing community guitar orchestra and youth orchestra. He is also helping to develop two websites: Guitaretudes.com and Etudes.co, which deliver a unique format for his interest in music education. Timothy has had the opportunity to study with many world-renowned pedagogues including Stephen Mattingly, Martha Masters, Craig Wagner, Gene Bertoncini, Corey Christiansen, Stephen Aron, Thomas Kirchoff, Ana Vidovic, Oscar Ghiglia, and Rovshan Mamedkuliev. He regularly plays events in and around the Louisville area. During his studies at the University of Louisville, he was a member of the University Guitar Ensemble, University Chorus, and the New Music Ensemble. Atkinson is an active performer in both the United States and in Germany. She has debuted with various orchestras in both countries, including the Nashville Symphony, New Haven Symphony, the Louisville Orchestra, the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra, the Carmel Bach Festival Orchestra, the American Baroque Orchestra , the Gewandhaus Orchestra, and the Braunschweig Staatsorchester. Highlights of this past season included several debuts, including Dvorak’s Requiem at the Konzerthaus Berlin, Messiah with the Portland Oratorio Chorale of Maine, and Handel Duets at the Steglitz Early Music Festival. The season also includes a return to the Bach Choir of Bethlehem for a performances of Bach Cantatas 97 and 74, a Messiah with Opera On Tap Berlin, and a new production of Winterreise at the Delphi Theater in Berlin. Additional highlights include role debuts as Mary in Der Fliegende Holländer, and as Bradamante in Alcina. Following the completion of her degrees, she was a recipient of a prestigious Fulbright Grant, which supported a year of study at the Mendelssohn Conservatory of Music in Leipzig, Germany. The subsequent year she was a winner of an Ad Infinitum stipend and a DAAD scholarship, which allowed for a year of continued studies in Leipzig. Since arriving in Germany, Ms. Atkinson made her European opera debut at Oper Leipzig, where she appeared as Franzl/Heuschreck in Das schlaue Fuchslein; she has performed additional roles at Staatstheater Braunschweig and Rheinsberg Kammeroper. Throughout Europe she has sung various concerts and recitals; highlights include Bach’s St. John Passion at the Bachakademie in Stuttgart, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde in Leipzig, Schoenberg’s Book of Hanging Gardens at the Schumann Haus in Leipzig and Jenkins’ The Armed Man in Hamburg. She is the recipient of various prizes and awards, including 1st place at the American Bach Society/Bethlehem Bach competition, a prize winner of the International Chamber Opera competition in Rheinsberg, a finialist in the Greifswald Bach competition, a Fulbright Grant, an Ad Inifinitum/DAAD steipend, and the inaugural Margot Fassler Award for Excellence in Performance of Sacred Music at Yale. She has worked with such esteemed conductors as Helmuth Rilling, Nicholas McGegan, Simon Carrington, Christopher Seamen, Paul Hillier, Stephen Layton, Mattias Foremny, and Ulrich Windfuhr. She received her masters degree from the Institute of Sacred Music at Yale University, where she studied with the American tenor, James R. Taylor. At Yale, Ms. Atkinson was a member of Schola Cantorum, a vocal ensemble led by Simon Carrington. As a soloist in this ensemble, she recorded Mendelssohn’s Magnificat with Naxos Records and toured Bach’s B-Minor Mass throughout China and Korea. With the Yale Baroque Opera Project, she sang the lead role of Medea in Cavalli’s Il Giasone, for which she received a favourable review by Alex Ross in The New Yorker. She immensely enjoys teaching elementary students using the Orff Schulwerk methodology. Ms. Quesada mentors new music teachers in her district and supervises and mentors music education student teachers from the University of Louisville. With a vast experience as a bilingual music teacher, Penelope has taught music in elementary schools in her native country Peru, the Louisville Catholic School System and JCPS. Ms. Quesada’s training includes full Orff Certification on levels I, II and, III (University of Kentucky and Carnegie Mellon University), certification in World Music Pedagogy (Smithsonian Folkways Institute) and Robotics EV3 (Carnegie Mellon University). She has a B.A of Arts in Music, a Masters in Music Performance, and a Rank I in Education Technology (University of Louisville). Ms. Quesada is also certified as a Music Teacher by the Kentucky Department of Education. Ms. Quesada created the first full Orff Ensemble in Kentucky and twice she has been invited to perform at the Kentucky Music Educators Conference with the LPAS Orff Ensemble. She was the recipient of the “Jefferson County Public Schools Music Teacher of the year” award in 2013 and the finalist for the Music Educator Grammy Award in the year 2016. She has been invited to give music education professional development sessions in Orff methodology, technology in the music classroom and arts integration at the Kentucky Music Educators Conference, the Archdiocese of Louisville and Jefferson County Public Schools. Ms. Kim earned her Master of Music degree at the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University as a scholarship recipient. Additionally, she is also the first recipient of the Setnor School of Music Performance Award for Strings which is awarded to students who demonstrate excellence in performance. Ms. Kim also holds a Teaching Artist Certificate from Longy School of Music of Bard College, and has spent many years developing her own teaching style. Ms. Kim is an active, and diverse performer who has appeared in concert internationally. She has served as concertmaster of Syracuse University Orchestra, the Lyrica Chamber Orchestra, EMF Symphony Orchestra, and was a member of the YMF Debut Orchestra in CA, a guest violinist for the Cheongju City Chamber Orchestra in South Korea, Moritzburg Festival Orchestra in Germany, and has performed with the American Symphony Orchestra among others. He is Principal Trumpet of the Louisville Civic Orchestra, a member of Chamber Winds Louisville, and regularly freelances in the area. A specialist in Baroque trumpet, he has performed Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria with Bourbon Baroque and worked frequently with Kentucky Baroque Trumpets. In masterclass settings, Jon has performed for Clark Terry, Tom Hooten, Nikos Xanthoulis, and the Royal Philharmonic trumpet section. His trumpet teachers include the late Dr. Michael Tunnell, Dr. Erika Schafer, Shane Porter, Dr. Herb Koerselman, Friedemann Immer, and Kris Kwapis. He has taught college-level courses and private lessons in music at the University of Missouri, Indiana University-Southeast, Marshall University, and the University of Buffalo. Jacob is passionate about building communities for contemporary, classical, and experimental music. Currently, he serves as the Managing Director of the Mizzou New Music Initiative at the University of Missouri School of Music, where he oversees concerts of 20+ visiting composers and performers each year, competitions, several K-12 programs, and a new music festival on an international scale. Previously, he served as assistant director of the Dreamland Arts Center, as well as co-artistic director of the Mothership Ensemble. Before college, she studied with Roger Soren and attended the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville. Throughout her studies, Jackie participated in the Interlochen Summer Music Institute, the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute, and the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival at Juilliard, and is an alum of the American Wind Symphony Orchestra. She has performed at the Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland, as well as in venues in Costa Rica and Switzerland. Jackie has played with the Louisville Orchestra, Owensboro Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic, Orchestra Indiana, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, and Orchestra Enigmatic. Other bassoonists she has studied with include George Sakakeeny, Jeff Keesecker, Steven Wilson, Sue Heineman, and Monica Ellis. She is also a member of the artist faculty at Mozart in the Knobs. Jackie was one of the musicians on the GRAMMY Award-winning recording The American Project with the Louisville Orchestra and Yuja Wang. She also performs with community groups such as the Louisville Winds and Chamber Winds Louisville. In recent years, she has also performed with the Phoenix Down RPG Trio at IDRS and ICA. Unique in her versatility, Jackie not only performs with classical ensembles but also collaborates with rock and experimental groups. Since 2011, she has been a member of the art-rock band Ut Gret. She has also performed, toured, and recorded with Sapat, Waterbirds, Cat Casual, The Ford Theatre Reunion, Adjy, Tim Barnes, The Mothership Ensemble, Camera Lucida, il Troubadore, NovemberGroup, Dane Waters, Eugene Chadbourne, and Jecorey "1200" Arthur. Margaret has performed chamber music as a guest artist with the Kentucky Center Chamber Players, as faculty of the East West International Music Festival in Altenburg, Germany, as a founding member of Concorde: The Chamber Music Society of Westport (Connecticut), and as a core member of Louisville’s les six, performing with the group through its tenth-anniversary concert, given in October of 2025. In addition to being on the faculty at LAM, Margaret Foote Jamner is flute faculty for Indiana University Southeast and at the Arts Institute of IUS. He has served as Director of Bands in the North Harrison Community School Corporation and taught general music at Floyds Knobs Elementary School. Kent holds a degree in Trombone Performance from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music and previously played trombone with the Sarajevo Philharmonic. She was Assistant Principal/Eb Clarinet with the Mexico City Philharmonic for almost 20 years. Since 2009, she has lived in Louisville and is first call Clarinet with the Louisville Orchestra and is Second Clarinet with Orchestra Kentucky. She also performs with the Owensboro Symphony, Nou Lou Chamber Players and Louisville Masterchorale Orchestra. She is a founding member of Sinfonietta Ventus, a woodwind octet based in Mexico City and has played Clarinet/ Eb Clarinet with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Mineria also in Mexico City. She currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Clarinet at Bellarmine University and has also taught at Western Kentucky University, University of Louisville and Campbellsville University. She continues to teach at Male High School, Atherton High School, Jeffersonville High School and Carrithers Middle School. Marilyn has recorded with many orchestras and has 4 recordings with Sinfonietta Ventus. Orchestrally she has recorded under the direction of Carlos Miguel Prieto, Jorge Mester, and Teddy Abrams. She has toured extensively in Mexico, Europe, China, Colombia and the United States. Her husband Jon Gustely is Principal Horn with the Louisville Orchestra and her daughter is a Choir Director at Apex Friendship High School. He has had the privilege of studying with Dr. Clyde Beavers, Prof. Paul York, and Prof. Tanya Remenikova. During his studies, he has received awards from the University of Louisville, Macauley Competition and the Schubert Music Club Competition. He has taught cello and string bass at the University of Minnesota Morris and Centre College; cello and piano at Mt. Calvary Music Academy; and has held a private studio for 15 years. Dr. Darville has performed with orchestras throughout Indiana, Minnesota, South Dakota, Texas and Kentucky. He has worked as a Teaching Artist for the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Darville is currently the Director of Orchestras at Western Middle School for the Arts in Louisville, KY. She received many international awards and honors including Rotary Club International Competition for Young Musicians; Turkish Educational Foundation Outstanding Achievement Award; Berneking Fellowship; Thursday Musical Young Artist Scholarship Competition and Schubert Club Scholarship Competition. Throughout her career Dr. Darville has performed with many Symphonic Orchestras including the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Lubbock, Lubbock Moonlight Musicals and Kentucky Bach Choir as the principal second; the Amarillo Symphony, Midland Symphony, the La Crosse Symphony, Paducah Symphony Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra and Amadeus Chamber Orchestra as principal viola. Her recent recordings include chamber music recording of Kentucky composer Joe Levin published under Centaur Records. Dr. Darville has given guest lectures and clinics at Kentucky Music Educators Association, University of Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State University, University of Texas at Arlington, Campbell University, Youngstown State University, Bahcesehir University and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, Turkey. Dr. Darville is the founder of Arkhé String Camp in Izmir, Turkey- a non-profit international summer camp for music camp for string students. She’s since performed all over the United States, Canada, and Europe, including at such esteemed chamber music, folk music, and jazz engagements as Stimmen Festival, Festwochen Gmunden, Calgary Folk Festival, the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall, and Ingolstadt Jazz Festival, playing music in points as far west as Skagway, Alaska and as far east as Abu Dhabi. She's scored one movie, two silent films, and one radio drama; she's recorded six albums of original music, as well as one album of solo arrangements of the music of jazz behemoth Charles Mingus; and she's shared the stage with Bobby McFerrin, Jonathan Richmond, Judy Collins, and Buckethead. Alan was the Principal Cello of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, with which he appeared as soloist in the Dvořák Cello Concerto. The New London Day praised Alan for “technique with a swaggering panache, retaining musicality…robust fullness from lower register…to the top.” Alan has appeared in solo and chamber recitals in Tokyo and New York City on Charlotte White’s Salon de Virtuosi concert series. As a chamber musician, Alan has had the privilege of collaborating with distinguished artists, including David Shifrin, Lawrence Dutton, Cynthia Phelps, Ko Iwasaki, and Cho-Liang Lin. He has performed as a percussionist and vocalist around the world—from Switzerland’s Jungfrau Erzählfestival to Tennessee's Big Ears Festival, Louisville's Forecastle Festival, New York's 92nd Street Y, and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. He is the Director of Percussion Studies at Simmons College of Kentucky, an endorsed artist with Salyers Percussion, an instructor at the Louisville Academy of Music, and an artist roster member of the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN). His recording and composition work spans theatre, film, television, radio, podcasts, and studio albums, while his live performances include soloist appearances with professional orchestras in Baltimore, Brooklyn, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dallas, Dayton, Indianapolis, Miami, Nashville, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Richmond, San Diego, San Francisco, St. Petersburg, and Calgary (Canada). Notably, Arthur was the first hip-hop artist to perform with the Louisville Orchestra, premiering his original compositions as well as the folk opera The Way Forth and starring as Muhammad Ali in the rap opera The Greatest: Muhammad Ali. He is classically trained and is also known for being a soul-Improv violinist; He plays the styles of Classical, Gospel, Hip-Hop, Jazz, R&B, and Neo-Soul. He has received a Bachelor's degree in Music Industry and Recording Arts and a Masters's in Violin Performance studying under Dr. Sila Darville. Kor'ee began playing violin at the age of 7 years old. He did not take private lessons until he was 17 years of age, so he played by ear for years, with very little music reading skills. He studied the Suzuki method when he began lessons before heading off to college where he truly learned how to read and write music for the first time. Kor'ee excelled in learning music vastly and became Concertmaster of the EKU Symphony Orchestra under Dr. Ho-Yin Kwok. He is also an educator, composer, and life coach as he works as an orchestra director and a teacher throughout Kentucky from Elementary to Collegiate levels. Kor'ee has studied and played violin in Italy and Turkey. He also has performed onstage with Black Violin and other well-known artists. Just recently he dropped his first album "Perfectly Imperfect" on all platforms, and looks forward to sharing more albums and mixtapes throughout his career and continuing the growth of music through the education systems and young maestros. Her father, José Basileu Neves Gonzaga, was an army lieutenant, and her mother, Rosa de Lima Maria, was an enslaved woman. Although her parents came from starkly different social classes, Gonzaga’s father did not abandon his daughter. Instead, Gonzaga grew up with the advantages of high-class Brazilian society and received an education in reading, writing, mathematics, languages, religion, and music. She loved music most of all and composed her first song, “Canção dos Pastores” (Shepherd’s Song), at age 11. Seeking to tame Gonzaga’s “unsettled and mischievous” nature, her father arranged a marriage for her at the age of 16 to 24-year-old imperial army official Riberio do Amaral. Together, the couple had three children. However, Gonzaga’s husband did not support her pursuit of music. Ultimately, when forced to choose between marriage and music, Gonzaga replied, “Well, sir, my husband, I do not understand life without harmony.” The couple promptly divorced. After her divorce, Gonzaga’s family ostracized her. She found support and community from fellow musicians in Rio, particularly Joaquim Antonio da Silva Callado. Callado was a leader in developing one of Brazil’s most characteristic forms of popular music, choro (pronounced SHO-ro). Callado led ensembles consisting of a soloist, accompanied by guitars and acavaquinho (a small, four-stringed guitar) playing improvisatory figures. Gonzaga played piano in Callado’s ensembles, becoming Brazil's first female conductor and performing musician. As a composer, Gonzaga brought the sounds of choro and other forms of Brazilian street music into salons and concert halls. This departure from the traditions of European classical music was popular, and Gonzaga’s compositions became especially well-known in the last two decades of the19th century. Gonzaga’s music was also influential in the Brazilian tradition of Carnaval, an annual festival that marks the beginning of Lent. Her composition “Ô Abre Alas!” (Oh, Make Way!) was played at the festival to ask crowds to make way for the parade. Activism was another prominent part of Gonzaga’s career. After joining the Sociedade Brasileira de Autores Teatrais (Brazilian Society of Artistic Copyright Law), she worked hard to protect the copyright of other Brazilian artists. Gonzaga supported abolitionist movements in Brazil until the abolishment of slavery in 1888. She frequently used the money she made from selling her music to donate to organizations that sheltered and protected enslaved people. Chiquinha Gonzaga died in Rio on February 28th, 1935. Although she remains relatively unknown worldwide, she is considered an important cultural figure within her home country. She produced over 200 compositions in her lifetime, including waltzes, polkas, and operettas. Born in Paris, Bonis taught herself to play piano before being admitted to the Conservatoire de Paris by organ professor and notable composer César Franck. At the Conservatoire, she studied alongside Claude Debussy and published her first piece of music under the pen name “Mel Bonis” in order to obscure her gender. Viewing music as an unsuitable career, her parents rejected a proposal of marriage from a fellow musician and withdrew Bonis from the Conservatoire. Although she was forced into an arranged marriage, Bonis continued to compose and produced many of her best known works from 1900-1914. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Price was educated at the New England Conservatory of Music, and was active in Chicago from 1927 until her death in 1953. Price is noted as the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a composition played by a major orchestra. Price composed over 300 works: four symphonies, four concertos, as well as choral works, plus art songs, and music for chamber and solo instruments. As a nationally recognized composer, Tyler will be featured with orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony. He has been appointed the Daniel R. Lewis Composer Fellow with the Cleveland Orchestra – a three year composer residency that will include several commissions, work with the communities of Cleveland, and education initiatives. He will teach a Young Composer Workshop with students of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra in 2026. As winner of the 2024 Michael Morgan Prize, Tyler has been commissioned by the San Francisco Symphony to write a large-scale work for their 2025-2026 season. Other honors include a Copland House Residency Award (2023), an I-Park Foundation Residency (2023), and the Louisville Orchestra Creator Corps Residency (2022–23). As a music educator and teaching artist, he founded and taught the Louisville Orchestra Young Composer Program (2022-25), where students from JCPS had their pieces workshopped and performed by members of the Louisville Orchestra. She has played with acclaimed ensembles such as the Louisville Orchestra, Louisville Ballet, Chattanooga Symphony, Lexington Philharmonic, Orchestra Kentucky, Quad City Symphony, Lubbock Symphony and was a tenured member of the Duluth-Superior Symphony for six years. As a soloist, in 2019, she premiered Kentucky composer Rachel Grimes' folk opera, The Way Forth, as solo violist in the featured small ensemble along with Teddy Abrams and the Louisville Orchestra. He later earned degrees from the University of Memphis and the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) at the University of Cincinnati, where he studied with John Chiego and Rachel Calin, respectively. She began her training at SCAPA (School for the Creative and Performing Arts). While at UofL, Abby cultivated her passion for vocal music through a wide range of performance opportunities. She appeared as Jeanette in L’Amant Anonyme with the UofL Opera Theatre and performed as a chorister in Gluck’s Orfeo with Kentucky Opera. Abby was also a dedicated member of the internationally recognized Cardinal Singers, with whom she toured across three continents. Throughout her time with the ensemble, she premiered solos in several new choral works. Her most recent travels with the group took her to South Korea. Through her work in solo and ensemble performances, she developed the flexibility to adapt her voice to a variety of musical genres and settings. She began studying violin at The Hartt School Community Division at age four with Donna Ngai. Kayla enjoys a varied career consisting of orchestral playing, chamber music, solo performing, and private teaching. She has soloed with multiple orchestras, winning the David Einfeldt Chamber Music Seminar Concerto Competition, Hamden Symphony Concerto Competition, Connecticut Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, American Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition, and Wallingford Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. Kayla was the first-place recipient of the Musical Club of Hartford Competition and the Shoreline Arts Alliance Top Talent Award, and she was recently awarded the Scott Sullivan Prize for Post-1950s Piece at the Ronald Sachs International Music Competition. Her chamber ensemble of 2021-2022, the Obri Quartet, was one of the winners of the Lynn Chamber Music Competition, and the group performed on the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Chamber Music Series in Delray, Florida. Cristina brings a dynamic presence to the stage, studio and classroom engaging equally as a performer, educator, and collaborator. She is a laureate of multiple international competitions across Europe, Asia, and the United States. She has appeared as a soloist with the Moldova Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Teleradio-Moldova. In 2018, Cristina received the Jacobs Music Company Steinway Award and the W. Clarke Pfleeger Award for Outstanding Pianistic Ability and Musicianship. Cristina began her musical training at the Republican Lyceum of Music Ciprian Porumbescu under the guidance of Professor Larisa Jar. She later completed her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at Rowan University (NJ) and her Master of Music in Piano Performance at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University (GA). With more than a decade of teaching experience, Cristina is dedicated to cultivating musical curiosity and confidence in her students. He has been a Choral Fellow with Spoleto Festival USA for the past three seasons singing in multiple operatic and choral performances. Most recently in 2025 with Spoleto, he performed as the Serviteur in the opera Thaïs, bass soloist/chorister in a performance of Kodaly’s Missa Brevis, and a concertist in Bach’s B Minor Mass. He also made his Indianapolis Opera debut in 2024 with the role of Liebeslieder/Fritz in their production of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. Aaron is also a professional teacher of voice having taught both private students and at the university level. He teaches adjunct voice and academic courses at Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY. He has also performed many opera roles including the role of Papageno in The Magic Flute, Schaunard in La Bohème, the Count in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Estates Theatre in Prague, and Marcello in La Bohème in Croatia. He received a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College in 2018 before attending the University of Kentucky. As a nationally recognized composer, Tyler will be featured with orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony. He has been appointed the Daniel R. Lewis Composer Fellow with the Cleveland Orchestra – a three year composer residency that will include several commissions, work with the communities of Cleveland, and education initiatives. He will teach a Young Composer Workshop with students of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra in 2026. As winner of the 2024 Michael Morgan Prize, Tyler has been commissioned by the San Francisco Symphony to write a large-scale work for their 2025-2026 season. Other honors include a Copland House Residency Award (2023), an I-Park Foundation Residency (2023), and the Louisville Orchestra Creator Corps Residency (2022–23). As a music educator and teaching artist, he founded and taught the Louisville Orchestra Young Composer Program (2022-25), where students from JCPS had their pieces workshopped and performed by members of the Louisville Orchestra. The program featured over 60 premieres in its three years. He also teaches horn lessons to students at Crosby Middle School and Johnson Middle School as a sectional and private coach. As a versatile performer, Tyler has played in settings ranging from professional orchestras including the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, the Huntington Symphony, the Louisville Ballet, and the Owensboro Symphony to recitals of contemporary music featuring works by several living composers. She cut her songwriting and improvising teeth in New York City, then hit the road. She’s since performed all over the United States, Canada, and Europe, including at such esteemed chamber music, folk music, and jazz engagements as Stimmen Festival, Festwochen Gmunden, Calgary Folk Festival, the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall, and Ingolstadt Jazz Festival, playing music in points as far west as Skagway, Alaska and as far east as Abu Dhabi. She's scored one movie, two silent films, and one radio drama; she's recorded six albums of original music, as well as one album of solo arrangements of the music of jazz behemoth Charles Mingus; and she's shared the stage with Bobby McFerrin, Jonathan Richmond, Judy Collins, and Buckethead.
