This is a musical performance and suitcase puppet show of Ferdinand, the original children’s book with words by Munro Leaf and drawings by Robert Lawson. Louisville Academy of Music Executive Director Sara Callaway will perform the story of Ferdinand the Bull for violin and narrator written by Alan Ridout. Squallis Puppeteers’ Shawn Hennessey will present a suitcase-sized puppet show of the story alongside the music and narration. Also included in the show is a telling of the African folktale Abiyoyo, made popular by Pete Seeger, that features a backpack style Squallis puppet, and a demonstration of Appalachian folk music featuring a traditional jig doll or lumberjack puppet dance.
This performance will be hosted live on Squallis Puppeteers Facebook Live at 11am from Highlands Community Campus. We ask that no one show up in person, so that we may continue to practice social/physical distancing and not endanger the health and well-being of our performers. Subject to cancellation if shelter-in-place orders are enacted.
